How to Prep for Your Wax
A flawless wax starts before you walk through our door. A few small things in the day or two before your appointment make the difference between a good wax and a great one — here's exactly what to do.
Before Your Appointment
-
A gentle scrub or exfoliating mitt a day or two before your appointment lifts away dry skin so the wax grips hair — not buildup. Skip it the day of; freshly exfoliated skin needs time to settle.
-
Retinol and strong exfoliating acids thin the surface of the skin — pause them about a week before any facial waxing. On prescription Retin-A or Accutane? Tell us before you book and we'll point you to a service that's safe for your skin.
-
Hold off on heavy sun, tanning beds, and spray tans for 48 hours before your wax. We can't wax burnt or irritated skin — and yes, San Diego sun counts.
The Day of Your Wax
-
Clean, product-free skin waxes best. Shower before you come in, then leave off lotions and oils on the area — they create a barrier between the wax and the hair. We cleanse the area again before we start, so no need to overthink it.
-
Both heighten skin sensitivity. Keep your morning coffee — just don't triple it, and save the celebratory drink for after your appointment.
-
Soft, loose clothing means nothing rubs against freshly waxed skin on the way home. Your skin will thank you.
New to waxing? Hair needs to be about ¼ inch — the length of a grain of rice. Give it two weeks after your last shave.
